Description The Apophthegmata Patrum (Verba Seniorum) are among the most widely spread and used texts of the Christian tradition. Originating in fifth century Egypt and Palestine they were organized in a variety of collections in all languages of Christianity throughout the Middle Ages. With their background in late antique school tradition they have played a decisive role in monastic formation and thus in the educational history of Europe in general.
