Description

Infectious diseases constitute major threats to health in all world regions. Research in this field explores interactions between micro-organisms, the host immune system and the community. We aim to translate research results into improved strategies for prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Our research projects involve a range of experts in clinical and pre-clinical disciplines, with extensive collaborations especially in the fields of microbiology and immunology. Research projects are based both in Sweden and in a research station in Ethiopia. Our main research areas are: 1) respiratory tract infections; 2) antimicrobial drug resistance; 3) management of severe infections (sepsis syndrome); 4) infections in people who inject drugs; 5) HIV and tuberculosis in low-income countries.
