Combustion Physics is since 2001 located in the Enoch Thulin-laboratory at the Physics Department. The general aim of the activity is to increase the basic understanding of combustion processes through experimental as well as theoretical research. The experimental research is directed towards development of laser-based diagnostic methods for measurements of parameters such as temperature and species concentrations. The methods, which are based on physical principles, are developed under well-characterised conditions, and applied to combustion devices, for example, engines and gas turbines. The theoretical research is mainly directed towards an increased fundamental understanding of the chemical processes involved in combustion processes. Theoretical models, so-called chemical mechanisms, are developed for accurately describing the complex chemistry in combustion processes.
