Bacterial proteins sometimes display an interesting slective binding to plasma proteins from only some species and can even sometimes be human specific. We use biochemistry and bioinformatics to understand these differences between differenet animal species. Along this line, we have developed a rapid and cost-effective assay to screen unfractionated animal plasma for knowing which species plasma proteins that bind to a bacterial protein of interest.
Along another line, we are developing models for studying toxicity of HBOCs (hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers).
