About my research
In my research I want to assess and visualize processes in cities. I am working with models for urban ecosystem services with the purpose of mapping and quantifying services from green and blue infrastructure. I am mainly funded by a Swedish Formas project on nature-based solutions (NBS) which are “actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems, that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits” (IUCN). In one of my projects I will look into flood prevention where green areas and other NBS sometimes can act as buffers depending on where in the city they are situated. Later on I aim to use the same scenarios (spatial distributions) for assessing what multiple functions the NBS can provide which can be e.g. recreational possibilities, aesthetical values, air quality regulation and also cooling effects through evaporation of water from vegetation and water surfaces.
I was raised on the Swedish west coast north of Halmstad. For my academic studies I moved to Lund where I did my MSc in Technical Mathematics at the faculty of engineering (LTH) with a focus on GIS and hydrology. I did my master thesis at Lund University’s GIS-center where I developed a new flood modelling program in collaboration with their senior researchers. I am interested in how we can face environmental challenges in various ways utilizing interdisciplinary expertise.
Before starting my PhD studies I’ve worked at a cooperative bank with popular educations regarding relationships between the ecology, the economy and the social sphere. Aside from work and studies I enjoy seeing friends, being in nature and climbing, indoors as well as outdoors.
