Cellular Neurophysiology and Epilepsy group

The goal of our research is to tap in to the regenerative properties of human cells and regenerate lost neurons in childhood epilepsy with the aim to develop patient-specific tailored treatment, targeted and with minimized side effects.

One in 26 people will develop epilepsy at some time in their life and the highest risk of developing epilepsy is in childhood and at old age. For a child, recurrent intractable seizures during development are detrimental for both their cognitive and neuropsychological development and onset within the first year of life is a strong risk factor for mental retardation. Cellular Neurophysiology and Epilepsy group studies mechanisms for seizure generation in the developing brain and develops cellular approaches for treating epilepsy.
