My research is in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of large concrete structures. SHM is a field where autonomous systems are installed, permanently, to structures, and these perform non-destructive testing measurements on the structure. The idea is that if changes from normal conditions are registered operators are to be automatically notified, and further testing can be performed on the location indicated by the SHM system.

In my work I focus on ultrasonic measurements between transducers distributed in networks around the structure. Ultrasound in concrete is challenging, due to the scattering on the aggregates in the mix and due to the severe attenuation of ultrasound in concrete. Overcoming these difficulties is the prime goal of my project.
