Research

I am the project leader for the research group PROGS. (Psychological Research on Gender Segregation) that investigates social psychological explanations for the gender segregation in the labor market. We mainly focus on the horizontal gender segregation which simplified can be expressed as women working with "people" and men with "things". We base our research on social psychological theories of gender, relate them to theories of career interests and choice and test them with quantitative research methods.

I finished my PhD in 2008 with a dissertation on stereotype threat in salary negotiations. Stereotype threat occurs when a group is stereotyped as inferior to other groups in a domain, such as when women are seen as inferior negotiator. It has been shown to have many negative psychological effects.

I'm also involved in a research project on the health effects of yoga. I teach mainly in social psychology, and preferably with a gender perspective.
