An Economic Analysis of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Market in Sweden
My PhD thesis thoroughly investigates the Motor Vehicle Inspection Market in Sweden. In one of my papers, which is a joint work with my supervisor professor Jerker Holm, We have examined if competitive pressure motives firms to deviate from regulation and involve in business misconduct. In another paper, I try to examine if local competition affects firms’ choice of service opening hours, a strategic variable that inspection firms can use to increase the probability that consumers find service times that best match their preferred (ideal) times. Presently, I am working on a paper that examines consumers' choice behaviour. I rely on a unique data to estimate a demand system which will allow me to infer consumers’ average preferences for the main characteristics of service providers including proximity. The result will help to understand the nature of location competition and evaluate policy changes.
