Layman's description

My research project concerns timing in multimodal communication, how a comprehensive communication of speech sounds and body movements relate to each other in time.
I will specifically look at the correlation between articulatory movements, intonation and facial gestures. The best way to investigate this is to use an electromagnetic articulograph which can record movements in space and time, similar to motion capture.
The project contributes to phonetic basic research, medical research on speech disorders and research on human-computer interaction.
