The focus of the conference was language and linguistics within societies, against a backdrop of possible larger ecosystems. Languages are dynamic and complex systems that adapt to the needs of their speakers. Such phenomena have been linked to issues such as intense (economic) globalisation, discussions on international vs. national languages, the place of the Estonian language in the EU, linguistic diversity and multilingualism.
