The Swedes are naively told to fight to the end, the Danes to be pragmatically obedient. Do you recognise this imagery? No? Marie Cronqvist and Rosanna Farbøl provide many more nuances when they talk about Swedish and Danish psychological defence during the Cold War until today. Sweden was inspired by the US and Denmark was inspired by Sweden, but the differences between the Scandinavian countries were more about who had experience of being at war, and who believed in a victory that was as theoretical as it was unbelievable.
