AI:s Pacing Problem -- Between Regulatory Fixity and Flexibility in the AI Act

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

Stefan Larsson presented on AI regulation, specifically the AI Act, and the issue of timing, here framed in terms of a pacing problem. By looking at on the one hand the swift technological development, and on the other the legislative process of the EU AI Act, Larsson argued for signs of flexibility in the law, at are meant to accommodate for uncertainty in the technological development. These flexibilities, however, come at the cost of unpredictability and, it seems, a transfer of power from the legislature to the Commission and the European Standardisation bodies.
