Description

CEC Research Seminar - rethinking publication and peer review.

As our next speaker for the CEC Research Seminars series, we welcome Dmytro Perepolkin, PhD candidate of CEC and affiliated to BECC.

Dmytro will speak on the title Rethinking publication and peer review.

Abstract: Academic publishing is not an easy domain to navigate, especially for the early career researchers. The pressure to publish combined with the fragmentation and complexity of the modern science landscape resulted in the convoluted constellation of publishing conglomerates, journals, intellectual property rights, open access movement, and citation indices, which constitute a big part of academic reality. In this talk we will discuss the problems and issues related to the way modern academic publishing and peer-review are organized and focus on the recent attempts to improve and smooth out the process of getting the scientific ideas from the research desk through the review process and on to the readers as quickly and as efficiently as possible. The talk includes review of the recent literature, as well as the summary of my personal experience related to alternative publishing route.
