Description
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), created in 1946,is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and it is a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.During the Commission’s annual two-week session, representatives of UN Member States, civil society organizations and UN entities gather at UN headquarters in New York and discuss about the emerging issues that affect gender equality and the empowerment of women. The outcomes and recommendations of each session are, then, forwarded to ECOSOC for follow-up.Because of its major topic (financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women) the 52ndsession was mainly focused on the role of the woman inbusiness administration and in political decisionmaking, comparing the different legal and social frames existing all over the world. The undersigned took part at this Commission’s session as a member of the delegation of Elsa International(an ONG that with its activity has achievedthe “consultative status” at the United Nation Economic and Social Council), beingmainly interested in the questions related to the empowerment of woman in the business administration.
