Description
PAGE 28 and Trinambai hereby invite you to a book talk and Swedish release of the fairy tale book that was condemned by Orbán. The Hungarian children's book "Fairyland is for Everyone" topped the best-sellers lists and was the subject of international attention after being condemned and sabotaged by the Hungarian government and far right groups in the country. Now, the Swedish translation is being released!Behind the book is the lesbian organisation Labrisz which, like the entire Hungarian LGBTQI-movement, has been the target of a smear campaign as well as faced prosecution at the hands of the Hungarian government. Through fairy tales the organisation wanted to create an educational tool for parents and teachers to use to discuss issues of discrimination, diversity, social justice and other difficult questions children face throughout their lives.
We invite you to a conversation with the initiator and project manager behind "Fairyland is for Everyone" – researcher and LGBTQI-activist Dorottya Rédai, named one of the world's most influential people of 2021 by TIME magazine.
Together with Irina Schmitt, lecturer in genders studies at Lund University, Rédai will discuss both book's influence as well as the very strong opposition and attempts at censorship the Hungarian LGBTQI- and human rights movement faces today. The conversation will be lead by Jude Dibia, Nigerian author working with the Dawit Isaak Library in Malmö.
Participants: Dorottya Rédai (Labrisz), Irina Schmitt (Lund University) and Jude Dibia (the Dawiit Isaak Library).
The event will be held in English. No prior sign-up needed, free entry. The event is organised in collaboration with the Swedish Arts Council.
