Description

To support sustainable forestry in Sweden, land management decisions should be supported by the best-possible knowledge available. But what is the best-possible knowledge when it comes to land management strategies, and ‘best’ according to whom? For this seminar we will look at how different groups such as forest owners, policy makers and community members can utilize different sources of knowledge such as national forest advisory services, maps and simulation models of forested land, personal experiences and inherited and collective memory. Together we will discuss the strengths and limitations of these respective sources of knowledge, including how to proceed when knowledge is incomplete, incompatible or even conflictual.
