Open source and open data for automotive - threats or opportunities?

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

The use of open source software is an established practice in many industry domains, to utilize development resources more efficiently and to promote innovation. With increasing reliance on data for e.g. machine learning, data sharing is also emerging. Our research has explored practices for the involvement of commercial software and system developers in open source ecosystems for for software tools and components, and investigated emerging open data ecosystems.

This presentation gives an overview of the highly integrated software engineering, business, and legal aspects of openness, which have to be taken into account when setting up strategies for engagement in open source and open data ecosystems. Further, we outline scenarios for the automotive domain to benefit from the opportunities of open ecosystems, while mitigating the corresponding threats.
