Description

In this reading group, members of staff at the English unit met to jointly read Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring alongside anglophone poetry dating from the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries as an exercise in ecocriticism. The results of the reading group were presented at an event (under the same title) at Lund's public library during Lund's sustainability week in 2023.

To revisit her powerful message and evoke resonances in content, sound, and imagery, we will recite and reflect on passages of Carson’s prose alongside poems such as John Clare’s ‘The Lament of Swordy Well’.
