This talk centered on the role of the International Court of Justice in relation to armed conflict situations characterised by grave crime. A primary question was to reflect on the empirical question of advances and obstacles facing the ICJ when it comes to holding states responsible for grave violations of international human rights and humanitarian law. Of primary interest was to reflect on how the ICJ operates in these situations considering its scope of jurisdiction (personal and material) as well as the difficulties of obtaining evidence. It furthermore discusses its complementary relationship of this court with international criminal tribunals.
