Description
Reframing ADM: Concepts, Values, Alternatives. In this conference, we are interested in alternative conceptualizations of automated-decision making (ADM) to counter the trend of unmoored speculation, which has tended to treat society as a landing site upon which algorithmic technologies are “deployed”. Collectively, the presentations below imagine a more nuanced and socially sensitive framing, grounded in everyday experiences, to reach beyond current debates on digital futures. By actualizing ADM systems in unexpected ways (through metaphors or evocative stories), we explore how diverse visions and values emerge in technology-mediated practices and move across different sectors of society. Our ultimate goal is, therefore, to set the stage to promote discussions of novel directions for ADM developments.
