Description
Salon 12B on Artistic Research, with Prof. Dr. Michael Edgerton (Malmö Music Academy/Lund University)Dienstag, 21. November 2023
um 18 Uhr
Experimentallabor der KWDS, Maiffredygasse 12B, 2. Stock
A collaboration with Institute 14 Music Aesthetics
Guest composer in residence and external Dr.artium-advisor Michael Edgerton will open the Salon with an example from his explorative sinfonietta "RUST this tattoo of hunters’ boots and rifle bolts“, influenced by Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow. Like the novel, it is a mix of low and high art embedded within an experimental (maximalist?) context. Even for an experimental work it seems elusive and hard to classify, something to ponder in the Salon. The 30-minute piece was put together in a backwards process. Only a few of the sounds are artificial, digitally; rather most of the piece is constructed from recordings of prior solo pieces of Michael Edgerton or from pedagogical recordings, made by people such as Garth Knox or Jack Adler-McKean.
