Swedish Conceptualization of Climate Adaptation through a Justice Perspective

Activity: Talk or presentationPresentation

Description

Climate change adaptation is increasingly becoming more important as there are now impacts of climate change which cannot be avoided through mitigation alone. However, while adaptation to climate change is often discussed on the international scale as an issue of justice and power, research on the intersections of power and adaptation on the local scale is much less common.
This presentation explored climate adaptation in Sweden and the wider cultural, political, and economic context within which it exists and is executed. Through an examination of adaptation policy and discussions in Sweden, this presentation focused on how adaptation has come to be conceptual on the national and local scale, as well as the implications of this for people at the local scale. It explored how justice, positionality and climate adaptation are connected and intersect in Sweden. Lastly, it discussed what this means for society as well as future directions for research on climate adaptation in Sweden and beyond.
