At ultra-high B0 magnetic fields of 7 T and above, the MRI signal is characterized by the intermediate B1 regime where the wavelength is smaller than the size of the imaged object. Hence, the transmit field in the rotating frame of reference (B1 +) can no longer be taken as an estimate for the receive field (B1-), and B1- cannot be reliably determined by MRI in other ways.1 Traditionally, the intensity profiles of areceiver array are empirically mapped onto that of a transceiver coil by employing SENSE 2 or other normalizations by automated pre-scans. Here, we discuss the implementation of a rapid PD-weighted 3D volume for normalization to derive semi-quantitative images.
