Description
In this presentation, the focus is on what language research is good for in the context of wine. Why is it important how production information, sensations and recommendations are issued to stakeholders including wine makers, marketing people and sellers, on the one hand, and wine connoisseurs and regular wine consumers on the other. What exactly is it that language scientists can offer? One fundamental contribution is that we can collect a lot of data about wine, export them into databases, analyze them and systematize them. Language is a window into our senses and our evaluation of speakers’ and writers’ intentions as conveyors of information. Work by language scientists is necessary to help all involved to see the trees for the woods and provide a platform for further developments and improvements of communicative credibility, efficiency, persuasiveness and mutual understandability. All these matters are equally important for everyone involved, not least the consumers.Period | 2021 |
