The conference is jointly organised by the World Interdisciplinary Network for Institutional Research (WINIR) and the Department of Economic History at Lund University. Reflecting the mission of WINIR the theme is broad and opens for participants from Economics, Economic History, History, Sociology and Political Science as well as Law and Philosophy. As such, it is the most significant global forum for institutional analysis. Reflecting today’s heated discussions on globalization and its effects on both the developing South and the industrialised North, the conference in Lund is themed Institutions for Inclusive Societies: Global and Comparative Perspectives. In this context, the participants will explore the role institutions play in conditioning equal access to production factors and opportunities. This will, by extension, also shed light on the role of institutions and institutional change in the social, economic and political development processes. At the conference questions such as what lessons have been learned from previous waves of globalization in terms of trends in global development and inequality, the effect of globalization on the standards of living and capabilities of people globally will be addressed.WINIR is a global network that brings together researchers from multiple academic disciplines to study the nature, function, evolution, and impact of institutions. Consequently institutions at the centre of its research with emphasis on those institutions and organisations that deeply affect the production and distribution of wealth and the means of human well-being. Since 2013 WINIR has organised several events including five annual conferences in Europe, North and South America and Asia. The conferences have featured top scholars from Economics, Political science and sociology. Including names such as Kathleen Thelen (MIT), Katharina Pistor (Coulumbia University), Daron Acemoglu (MIT) and James Robinson (University of Chicago).
The conference had 175 participants, presenting 155 papers over three days.
