KILU-CAS-MS
The laboratory is aimed to work with analysis of low molecular mass compounds, both regarding instruments available and staff expertise, and is open both for the department’s internal needs and researchers in other organizations. One research engineer introduces new users, manages the facility, and is responsible for instrument service and educates users. Depending on MS knowledge and interest, users can either be trained on the instruments and softwares or get assistance from the research engineer to run and evaluate samples.
The facility comprises a range of instruments combining chromatographic separation techniques, mainly ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) with mass spectrometric detection. Both high (UHPLC/SFC-QTOF and Orbitrap) and low resolution (UHPLC/SFC-QQQ) mass spectrometers are available in order to cover a range of qualitative and quantitative applications of low molecular mass compounds. The laboratory can also access GCMS and MALDI at other locations at the university if required.
Routinely run applications are HRMS as well as purity analysis (UHPLC-UV) of synthetic compounds and degree of incorporation of stable isotopes. Quantitative and qualitative methods are set up on demand based on literature methods or method development. Project-specific material costs (column, standards etc.) are paid by each project.
The infrastructure is managed by the Centre for Analysis and Synthesis.
