Unit profile

Description

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution of diseases and disease promoting factors in the population. The cardiovascular epidemiology research group focuses on studies of cerebrovascular diseases (stroke) and heart diseases, such as myocardial infarction, heart failure or atrial fibrillation. The research is performed in well characterized population-based cohorts, with extensive information about risk factors, including blood biomarkers and genetic risk factors. The goal is to identify factors that could be targets for treatment with pharmacological or non-pharmacological methods. Besides our work with previously established cohorts, we also create new well-examined cohorts for great cardiovascular research in the future.
