Effects of actively induced hypothermia on the brain and the heart after cardiac arrest. Patients in coma after cardiac arrest will be treated by actively induced hypothermia in the intensive care ward with the aim of being neuroprotective. The effect of hypothermia on the heart is not known. In collaboration with the hospitals in Malmö and Helsingborg data from these patients are introduced in a data base. There is a follow-up program of the patients. The goal is: To find early prognostic markers reflecting the degree of damage of the brain in peripheral blood, and the use of EEG and imaging to charachrerize type of brain injury in patients who do not survive. Efect of hypothermia will be studied on the cardiac function using imaging, EEG and pathology. The studies are performed in coorperation with Dr Malin Rundgren, Anestesi o Intensivvård, USiL, Dr Torbjörn Karlsson, Anestesi o Intensivvård, UMAS, Hans Olson, Anestesi o Intensivvård, UMAS, Dr Niklas Nielsen Anestesi o Intensivvård, Helsingborgs Lasarett
