The Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution specialising in languages, linguistics, comparative literature and area studies. SOL offers a large number of independent courses complemented by a growing number of undergraduate and graduate programmes. With close to 40 subjects and some 30 postgraduate programmes, SOL forms a solid unit with breadth and depth in teaching and research and is distinguished by both national and international visibility.

At SOL there is a great variety of research perspectives within linguistics, literary studies, area studies as well as in other disciplines. Examples of perspectives are synchronic, diachronic, applied and didactic perspectives. The research activities take place within each discipline but also in cooperation between disciplines at SOL, as well as with subjects at other faculties at Lund University and other universities, both at national and international level.
