Description

The Department of Archaeology and Ancient History conducts research and education in four subjects – Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, Archaeology, Historical Archaeology and Historical Osteology. The department has existed in various forms at Lund University since 1805 but was given its current composition in 2001. Since 2016, the department also houses the Laboratory for Digital Archaeology (DARKLab), an infrastructure and leading research environment. The department's activities are deeply rooted in a humanistic tradition but at the same time significantly interdisciplinary in nature, applying both scientific methods and the latest technology. The department has the ambition to operate locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, and is regularly ranked among the top 100 in the world in its field.
