Research

The research group focuses on methodological development of, and the anatomic basis for sentinel lymph node techniques in endometrial and cervical cancer. So far the prospective studies have defined the prerequisites for a safe implementation of sentinel node in endometrial cancer and within 1-2 years also likely for cervical cancer. The studies in endometrial cancer have recently resulted in a change in the Swedish national treatment protocol for endometrial cancer improving diagnose of nodal metastases with a potentially improved prognosis in combination with a substantially reduced risk for intraoperative and postoperative complications and as well as a reduction in health care costs. Similar advantages are expected also for cervical cancer when the concept is established.
