Unit profile

Description

Environmental law is a broad legal area, covering all matters linked to environmental problems and the relevant laws. Environment legal research may focus on specific environmental issues, such as the protection of water, risks from chemicals or a warmer climate. It may engage with environmental concerns from a broader social and economic aspect such as the relationship between environmental protection and trade or competition law. Also theoretical and ethical aspects, as Sustainable Development, the Precautionary Principle and a right to a good environment, are of interest within this area of research. Understanding how environmental law is implemented and enforced is yet another vital focus of environmental law research, including studying administrative and procedural frameworks and different types of sanctions in this regard.
