Unit profile

Research

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of disease in a population. Our research group investigates how exposure to factors in the external environment, new lifestyle factors and long-term disease affects human health using national population registers in combination with data from large-scale questionnaire surveys, extensive data collection in the field and biobanks.

Our research covers four main focus areas:

  • Health effects of exposure to high levels of the environmental contaminant PFAS
  • Health effects of exposure to tattoos and other body modifications
  • Risk factors for and consequences of chronic pain
  • Pandemic management - modelling of health care need and other societal effects
