Unit profile

Description

The research focus is on clinical, experimental and epidemiological studies in the fields of hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease, anaemia and intestinal failure. We study the epidemiology of liver cirrhosis and course of disease, prognostic factors and malignant transformation in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Comorbidity and immune pathogenesis in microscopic colitis is another line of research. Regarding anaemia, our research group has a particular interest in anaemia of chronic disease and iron deficiency related to inflammmation. Finally we aim at improving the nutritional status of patients with short bowel syndrome. Several of the studies are carried out in close collaboration with other national and international researchers, particularly in the UK, US and Denmark.
