Unit profile

Description

Our research is dedicated to improving health outcomes for mothers and newborns, both in Sweden and globally. We focus on advancing equitable access to maternity care, enhancing the quality of maternal and newborn services, driving innovation through new technologies, and strengthening health systems, particularly in resource-limited settings. Central to our work is understanding how maternal health and well-being during pregnancy and childbirth shape newborn health and health outcomes both in the short-term and long-term. Through global partnerships, rigorous clinical research using diverse methodologies, and active health advocacy, we aim to reduce inequalities and promote high-quality, evidence-based care for mothers and their newborns. The research group also leads The Lancet Commission on Maternal and Newborn Health (https://www.mnhcommission.org/ ), which is dedicated to restoring maternal and newborn health’s central place in all global health agendas through needs-driven, impactful research.
