We are specialised in fundamental cellular and molecular aspects of Gram-positive bacteria. Of special interest are enzymes with heme groups, endospore biogenesis, the cytoskeleton of bacteria, growth and cell differentiating in Streptomyces, and stress response in bacteria.
In our projects we look into bacterial infection and inflammation, fundamental problems in bacterial cell biology, heme proteins, stress responses, and adaptation in bacteria. Our research is basic research, but we hope that the results will increase the knowledge about cells’ fundamental life processes and give birth to new pharmaceutical products and anti-bacterial substances.
Description
The Microbiology research group is a productive research environment with common interests and approaches. We do research on bacteria, particularly Gram-positive bacteria. Our research involves species of Bacillus, Enterococcus, Mycobacterium, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and Streptomyces. They are microbes of large medical, environmental and industrial importance.
