Unit profile

Research

Minimally invasive cardiac surgery is defined a cardiac surgery with heart-lung machine, but without full median sternotomy. Depending on the underlying disease the surgical procedures can be performed through a 4-6 cm mini-thoracotomy on the right side with either video-assisted or robotic-asssited endoscopy or through a partial split of the sternum. We believe that minimally invasive facilitate early mobilization, reduces blood loss, and minimize the precence of deep wound infections. The members of the research group is clinicians with a long experience of valvular heart disease and advanced cardiac surgery techniques.
