Unit profile

Research

Nuclear structure research is conducted at international accelerator laboratories, e.g. CERN-ISOLDE and GSI-FAIR-NUSTAR, based on advanced detector systems developed in Lund. Multidisciplinary neutron-detector development and characterization is being facilitated. Accelerator mass spectrometry with 14C is used for primarily medical and environmental projects. Ion-beam analysis techniques specify elements and isotopes in applied research, reaching out to other disciplines like geology and biology. Here, Astrogeobiosphere manifests the latest cross-disciplinary development. A well-equipped laboratory exists for studies of tropospheric and stratospheric aerosols and their impact on climate and health.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being
  • SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 13 - Climate Action
