Unit profile

Research

The pathologist’s role is to deliver accurate diagnosis of disease, so as to enable optimal treatment strategies for individual patients. In the wake of the ‘omics revolution, with an increasing availability and impact of a wide range of molecular technologies, clinical pathology is currently undergoing a paradigm shift. However, despite the clear value of these technologies in further refining the diagnostic accuracy and paving the way for personalized medicine, the greatest current challenge is to decipher and reduce the vast amount of information into clinically relevant and applicable assays. The overarching aim of my research is to identify and validate tissue biomarkers for improved prognostication and response prediction in several major types of cancer. In addition, we study the influence of genetic, anthropometric and lifestyle-related factors on cancer development and progression.
