Unit profile

Research

Planetary health explores the vital link between human well-being and our planet's health, addressing environmental and climate impacts on public health through research and collaboration.

More about our research

Planetary health focuses on the intricate connection between human health and the health of our planet, emphasizing that the well-being of our societies depends on healthy natural systems and the responsible management of natural resources. As we witness an unprecedented degradation of natural systems, the health of both humanity and our planet is at significant risk. Our research group is dedicated to addressing the challenges within planetary health, where the environment and climate change impact public health both directly and indirectly. This includes factors such as the air we breathe, noise pollution, urban heat islands, and other environmental factors that can have negative health consequences. Conversely, the environment also positively influences us through, for example, access to green spaces.

Humans are not merely passive recipients of environmental impacts; we are integral to the environment and can influence it through our behaviors. Collectively, we shape a society where the health consequences of the environment can be significant or minimal. We investigate how the ambient environment affects our health through both epidemiological and experimental studies. We also conduct health impact assessments in collaboration with societal stakeholders to provide measurable insights into various issues and thereby propose solutions. Our goal is to contribute to sustainable societal change by providing scientific evidence on the link between the environment and health. Through our research, we strive to promote a healthy and sustainable future for all, advancing planetary health.
