Unit profile

Description

Cancer imaging is a growing field with screening programs for secondary prevention through early detection and advances in therapeutics as key drivers. Since primary prevention strategies are lacking for many types of cancers, imaging has a pivotal role in early detection, diagnosis and treatment response evaluation. Our research group has a long-standing experience especially in mammography screening for breast cancer with early pioneer trials in the 1970 and 80’s, clinical and epidemiological studies and recently a large population-based screening trial investigating 3D mammography (breast tomosynthesis) as a screening tool (The Malmö Breast Tomosynthesis Screening Trial, MBTST). The current scope embraces a wide spectrum of clinical cancer imaging research. At present our main focus is in breast imaging, however we also run projects including other types of cancer such as prostate, colorectal cancer and metastatic disease including imaging modalities such as MRI and PET/CT.
