Description

We conduct research and education with a focus on disability and rehabilitation. The target groups are individuals with neurologic disabilities as a result of stroke, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, post-polio, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and neuromuscular disorders. The research group is led by a Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and includes two researchers who hold PhDs and four doctoral students. Our staff members also work as physician, physiotherapist, occupational therapist and psychologist in clinical settings with rehabilitation and lifelong follow-up of persons with different neurologic disabilities. The research is conducted in seven areas and assesses the consequences of an injury or disease from a lifelong perspective. Different rehabilitation models and interventions focusing on physical activity and sports, compensatory strategies, self-efficacy, coping and empowerment, participation and life satisfaction are evaluated and developed.
