Rheumatology is a separate research group within the Department of Clinical Sciences, Malmö, from 2021. We conduct research within wide areas of rheumatology, with an emphasis on chronic arthritic disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis and psoriatic arthritis), giant cell arteritis, polymyalgia rheumatica and primary Sjögren’s syndrome. The research group is led by Carl Turesson, and includes a number of post doctoral researchers and Ph.D. students, some with a university position and some who work with research within other employments. Epidemiologic aspects, prognostic factors for clinical outcomes and early biomarkers for rheumatic diseases are investigated. Major parts of the research are based on long term follow-up of clinical materials, and on identification of incident cases with rheumatic disease among participants in large population based studies. The projects are conducted in close collaboration with other research groups at the University and national and international networks.
