Forskningen inom socialantropologi innefattar teoretisk och empirisk analys av olika samhälleliga och kulturella processer i ett världsom-fattande perspektiv. Forskningen på avdelningen inriktar sig mot: regionala sociala system, historisk antropologi, kulturell identitet och etnicitet, sociala rörelser, förhållandet mellan lokala och globala processer, kognitiva strukturer och media i komparativt och historiskt perspektiv, kulturella strategier i utvecklingsprocesser.
