Unit profile
Description
My research group focuses on investigating host-pathogen interactions at the structural and molecular levels. The main research questions addressed concern intrinsically disordered virulence factors, and how these target central components of the host innate immune system. This research is fundamental in the fields of medical microbiology and infection medicine, as it aims to identify potential therapeutic targets for combatting pathogen-related diseases. Understanding the protein-protein interaction interfaces between host and pathogen during infection, along with obtaining high-resolution structural data on these complexes, is essential for drug and vaccine development. The main methods we apply include include affinity-purification with quantitative proteomics mass spectrometry, structural proteomics including crosslinking and hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry, together with single-particle cryo-electron microscopy.
