Available HIV treatments are unsatisfactory since they don’t clear the infection and result in expensive and life-long treatment on an every-day basis without clear evidence of the long-term consequences and side effects of this. Our research is highly translational and combines clinical, experimental and bioinformatics research in various systems virology approaches to uncover nocel key virus-host mechanisms that dictate the pathogenesis of HIV. A large proportion of our research have strong links to Africa, which is natural considering that almost 70% of the world’s 37 million HIV infected individuals live on this continent.
