The division of Transport & Roads is a part of the Department of Technology and Society at LTH, Lund University. Traffic Engineering (sw. Trafikteknik) was one of the original departments at the Faculty of Engineering, LTH, only to be merged with other two departments into Technology and Society in the beginning of 2000s. For over 60 years, it has been a working place for many great researchers and teachers, not least the professors Stig Nordqvist (1966–1968), Gösta Lindhagen (1971–1993), Bengt Holmberg, Christer Hydén, Agneta Ståhl and Andras Varhelyi. At the moment, the division is one of the leading centra, nationally and internationally, in research and education within the subjects of road construction, transport planning, mobility, public transport, walking and cycling, traffic safety and social equity on transportation. Recently, the division expanded with a new a group on railway operations.

The research conducted within Transport and Roads focuses on the road user, transport modes and infrastructure - from planning to maintenance. Factors that affect society's need for transportation are studied as well as how infrastructure should be adapted to road users, citizens and societal demand on accessibility, safety, environment, and economics. Research on highway engineering also focuses on characteristics of materials used in road construction.
