Unit profile

Research

Disorders of the musculoskeletal system (i.a. in neck/shoulder/arm) is a problem in many occupational settings. Female industry workers and male construction workers exemplify occupations with high disorder prevalences. Further, many jobs in the service sector, such as cleaning and hairdressing, constitute a risk. Since many years, we do research in this area, with the purpose of increasing the scientific knowledge about the relationships between exposure and disorders, and have developed methods for measurement of work postures and movements, an for muscular activity, by portable technical measurements. The methods are validated and have been applied in many occupations. We therefore have good knowledge about relevant and riskful exposure levels Further, we apply a standardized clinical examination to assess musculoskeletal disorders, which we have applied in a large number of occupations. We use these methods in epidemiological field studies in male an female workers in different occupations.
