Research

Our research investigates risk factors, behaviours, diagnostics, prognosis, treatment and genetics for skin cancer. My studies focus on the use of image analysis powered by artificial intelligence to improve risk stratification, diagnostic accuracy and treatment. In some studies we collect material, for example enlarged, optimally illuminated pictures of skin cancer or confocal microscopic pictures, and experiment with different tools to see if the diagnostic ability of doctors can be improved early in the course of a skin cancer. In other studies we measure behaviours or risk factors by means of questionnaires or extracts from population registries. We also follow and describe how the prevalence and incidence of skin cancer evolve in our society and finally, by observing suboptimal parts of care of patients with skin cancer, we investigate how it could be improved, e.g. by improved preoperative assessments, prevention or prioritizations.
